September Residency at the Dakota

September at the Dakota Tavern

The Dakota Tavern is known for its warm, intimate vibe, and dedication to quality indie music. And it will be our home for 4 Wednesdays this September. If you're in or around TO one of these nights, join us! We've got a sweet line up of great original music for ya. Read about the bands below, and click "Going" to our FB event for updated info about the weekly shows: *link*.

Wednesday September 2

10:00 - Philip Bosley

Welcome to Grunge Country. Americana needs louder guitars, and Grunge needs better lyrics, so this is where Philip steps in. Put down your smartphones and listen up, kids: we’ve got Seattle Grunge meeting up with Austin Roots-Country in Southern Ontario for beer and whiskey. Oh, and he's a killer bass player too--stick around for the Straw Man set for proof.

10:45 - Jerry Leger and the Situation

Singer-songwriter extraordinaire Jerry Leger has played with the likes of Ron Sexsmith, The Sadies, Fred Eaglesmith, Justin Townes Earle, Deer Tick, Skydiggers, and Dawes, among others. And holy shit, he and his kickass band are opening the first session of our Dakota residency! Check out the latest release, Early Riser.

11:30 - Eli & the Straw Man

Wednesday September 9

10:00 - Common Deer

What is Cinematic Alt-Folk? Violin and cello beautifully incorporated to create majestic soundscapes for a unique blend of old European composition with the western frontier folk story. That’s what.

10:45 - Dani Nash

If you’re a Dakota regular, you’ve seen Dani, the fiery, leather catsuit wearing, hip swaying rock and roll machine! Check out her brand new single, Wired Up.

11:30 - Eli & the Straw Man

Psst: we will have EPs for sale at the Dakota! Four bright and shiny tunes, freshly mixed and mastered. You can hear three of the demos HERE

Wednesday September 16

10:00 - Brian Sasaki

Whistling, yodelling, throat singing vocal virtuoso Brian Sasaki joined us at the Silver Dollar in July, and we’re happy to share the stage with him again at the Dakota!

10:45 - Midnight Vesta

The chill you get when you can’t tell which harmony is coming from where... the best of TO’s indie pop/folk scene joins us on the 16th. Check out the live acoustic version of Midnight Vesta’s “Sleight of Hand”

11:30 - Eli & the Straw Man

Wednesday September 30

9:00 - Shore Thing

Indie folk/soul with cello in tow, Shore Thing are just coming off a tour across Eastern Canada, honing their distinctive, dynamic sound filled with catchy pop hooks. Hooks so catchy, we made them play the same song twice at Eli & Tam’s Christmas house concert. Check out their session on the big orange couch:

9:45 - The Kents

Indie pop in the vein of such artists as Foster The People, Young the Giant, and The Arkells, the Kents are the product of a Grade 11 music assignment, when band members attended I.E. Weldon Secondary School in their home town of Lindsay, ON. Nice work Mr. Koekebakker.

10:30 - Barbarosa

Folk slash pop-rock with a cool Spanish flair. Wicked art. Barbarosa is an alternative-folk band founded by Patrick Beedling in 2011, based in St. Catharines/TO. Watch their performance of “Early Morning” at the In the Soil Festival.

11:15 - Eli & the Straw Man
